The Hawks came out strong last night against sectional host Southport and proved they deserved a spot in the next round of sectionals, but the road continued with a second night of matches that would once again make the Hawks prove they deserved to be there, taking on Indianapolis Shortridge for the first time in recent history in the semi finals of sectionals.
The Hawks came out strong and once again showed great consistency in all spots, snagging a clean 5-0 win over Shortridge, landing the Hawks a spot in the sectional finals for the second year in a row!
#1 singles Charlie Tran played smarter not harder and walked away with a solid 6-0, 6-2 finish.
#2 singles Seth Fitzpatrick played consistently despite some setbacks at the net and some interesting plays on the opponent’s end, but managed to walk away with a 6-4, 6-3 win in straight sets as well.
#3 singles Connor Martin proved that stepping into each shot and making every point count would be the name of the game, bringing home a strong 6-1, 6-1 finish over Shortridge.
#1 doubles duo Miles Webb and Austin Hardin kept their cool and brought back some close games at Deuce to rally home a 6-1, 6-0 finish over Shortridge.
Due to smaller numbers, #2 doubles was not able to participate, so Shortridge forfeited the last point, giving Decatur Central the final point to take the 5-0 clean sweep.
The Hawks have been showing some really great promise on the back end of this 2019 fall season, and are once again taking on Perry Meridian tomorrow night at 5 for a second shot at a sectional title in two years! Get up Hawks!
