Due to COVID-19 concerns, many teams have been moving senior nights to earlier in the season to ensure that teams have the opportunity to recognize their seniors in case something were to happen.

So, after a two week stint away from home, the Hawks were able to return home and recognize their own seniors, all four year members of the Hawks tennis team! And, after a long dry spell in match results, the Hawks were able to bring home their first conference win of the season!

At #1 singles, SENIOR Charlie Tran fought well against Martinsville’s Nate Viewegh. It was a constant rally fest, ending with a lot of forced errors on the side of both parties. After an hour and a half fight, Tran dropped in straight sets to Viewegh 4-6, 1-6…yet one of the most competitive matches Tran has had this season!

The rest of the matches were a sweep for the Hawks, bringing home the 4-1 victory.

At #2 singles, SENIOR Dakota Atwood played super consistently and made athletic plays to best his opponent, Martinsville’s Aiden O’Connor 6-2, 6-1 with a great serving ace to end his match!

At #3 singles, SENIOR Nolan Spivey rallied hard against Martinsville’s Aiden Bunnell, bringing home a well-finished 6-1, 6-2 victory.

At #1 doubles, junior duo Connor Martin and Justin Wright bested Martinsville’s Calvin Johnson and Patrick McGown 6-2, 6-1.

At #2 doubles, junior Nick Crider and sophomore Jackson Tetrick played the consistency game and offensive moves to dictate points against their opponents, Martinsville’s Jace Malan and Ryan Pilat 6-1, 6-0.

It was truly an awesome night filled with good times and great memories. Thankfully, there is still so much tennis yet to be played, and it’s not quite time to say goodbye just yet!

The Hawks will be back in action again on Saturday at home in a three-way match against Greenwood and Franklin Community. Come out and support your Hawks!
