Decatur Central Hawks watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 10-1 loss to Martinsville on Wednesday. Martinsville scored on a home run by Ham in the first inning, a single by Ham in the second inning, and a single by Hoppel in the second inning.
The Decatur Central Hawks struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Martinsville, giving up ten runs.
Martinsville got things started in the first inning when Ham homered on a 2-1 count, scoring two runs.
Martinsville scored three runs in the fourth inning. Pemberton and Dodson all contributed in the big inning with RBIs.
Wilson took the win for Martinsville. He surrendered one run on one hit over three innings, striking out four. Hoppel threw four innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Parker Harrington took the loss for Decatur Central Hawks . He went three and a third innings, allowing eight runs on 13 hits and striking out three.
Taylor Jones and Brayden Hazelwood each collected one hit to lead Decatur Central Hawks . Decatur Central Hawks didn’t commit a single error in the field. Casey Martin had six chances in the field, the most on the team.
Martinsville racked up 13 hits on the day. Hoppel, Pemberton, Paxton, Ham, and Wesner all managed multiple hits for Martinsville.
