It’s been a pretty good week for the Hawks tennis team in their last week of regular season action. After taking wins against Speedway and Arsenal Tech and falling to a strong Brebeuf squad, the boys were interested to see what Lutheran’s squad would bring in the last home match of the season.

The boys fought well, keeping consistent and focusing on a lot of the form we have spent most of the season working on. And at the end of the day, the Hawks walked away with their third win of the week, seventh win of the season, and their second consecutive clean sweep!

First off was #2 doubles. Jackson Tetrick and Nick Crider led their match dictating the entire match with strong shots and consistent serves, bringing home a quick 6-0, 6-0 victory over Lutheran’s Evan Peterson and Dylan Robertson.

The second match off the court was #1 singles. Senior Charlie Tran played smart, consistent tennis playing the movement game really well and forcing his opponent’s hand. Tran finished shortly after #2 doubles, bringing home a 6-0, 6-0 victory of his own over Lutheran’s Reese Bullock.

#3 singles was next. Senior Nolan Spivey played the consistency game as well, leaning into backhands, serving up a storm, and putting lots of topspin on very aggressive low shots, frustrating his opponent, Lutheran’s Blake Miller. Spivey would eventually walk away with a 6-1, 6-2 victory, bringing confirmation of the win for the Hawks.

#1 doubles finished shortly after that. Justin Wright and Connor Martin rallied well against Lutheran’s Hpung Aung and Issac Vance, bringing heat on some solid alley shots and serving strong points. The match ended with a smooth 6-1, 6-1 victory, bringing Decatur their fourth point.

#2 singles was the last on the docket. Senior Dakota Atwood rallied long and hard against Lutheran’s Cade Tabit. There will a few games that lasted a while, bringing deuce multiple times. But Atwood was able to capitalize and walk away with a 6-2, 6-2 victory and Decatur’s clean sweep.

JV also had a good night, with both freshman Logan Schick and Curtis Bennett walking away with 4-2 victories! It was a good night to be a hawk!

The Hawks are on the road next week to compete in sectionals at Southport on Wednesday or Thursday depending on seeding. Get up Hawks!
