After a long couple weeks of tough matches ending in not-so-desirable results, the Hawks were looking for a couple of matches to bring some redemption not only to the overall record, but also just to their own personal mindsets. And after a strong 4-1 showing against Speedway Monday, the Hawks were looking to keep the momentum going into tonight’s match against Beech Grove.
And they did. And they also did so by bringing their second clean sweep of the season on both the varsity and JV decks.
At #1 singles, junior Charlie Tran stayed cool and consistent against freshman Chase Alford, bringing home a swell 6-2, 6-0 finish to start the Hawks off with some momentum.
At #2 singles, senior Seth Fitzpatrick found the driver’s seat early in the match and was able to walk away with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout against senior Trent Eckstein, bringing Decatur to a 2-0 lead over the Hornets.
At #3 singles, junior Dakota Atwood played consistently with some fast feet to walk away with a 6-1, 6-1 win over senior Alex Geiger.
Doubles also played well, with both spots sticking strong shots and staying grounded. #1 doubles senior duo Austin Hardin and Miles Webb had some slow moves to start, but eventually found their groove and ended their night with a 6-3, 6-1 finish over Beech Grove’s Cody Shepherd and Dean Hayward.
#2 doubles duo senior Owen Wohlert and junior Nolan Spivey stayed in the game with some solid net play and consistent shots to bring home Decatur’s fifth and final point with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Beech Grove’s Cameron Reed and Caiden Lundsford.
JV also had a successful night with a great 2-0 win over Beech Grove. One doubles team of Connor Martin and Brayden Coffey brought home a shutout 8-0 win, followed up with two doubles duo Nick Crider and Jackson Tetrick ending the night with an 8-1 win.
The Hawks are on the road again Saturday against Pike and Plainfield at Pike. It’s a great week to be a Hawk!
