Decatur Central Hawks nabbed the lead late in the game in a 3-2 victory over Whiteland on Monday. The game was tied at two with Decatur Central Hawks batting in the bottom of the fifth when Nolan Wade drew a walk, scoring one run.
The pitching was strong on both sides. Decatur Central Hawks pitchers struck out five, while McMahon sat down two.
In the first inning, Whiteland got their offense started when Reed A singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.
In the top of the fourth inning, Whiteland tied things up at two. Baker’s sac fly scored one run for Whiteland.
Jared Thompson was credited with the victory for Decatur Central Hawks . He allowed three hits and two runs over six and two-thirds innings, striking out five. Bryce Woodruff threw one-third of an inning in relief out of the bullpen. Woodruff recorded the last out to earn the save for Decatur Central Hawks .
McMahon took the loss for Whiteland. He allowed nine hits and three runs over six innings, striking out two.
Decatur Central Hawks scattered nine hits in the game. Bryce Lewman, Timmy Casteel Jr, and Taylor Jones each had multiple hits for Decatur Central Hawks . Jones, Casteel Jr, and Lewman each managed two hits to lead Decatur Central Hawks . Decatur Central Hawks didn’t commit a single error in the field. Casey Martin had ten chances in the field, the most on the team.
