The Hawks (8-10) took off slowly on this Tuesday night road trip, falling behind early to the Indianapolis Shortridge Blue-Devils (4-12) by the score of 14-16 after the first quarter. At the start of the second quarter the Hawks woke up and dominated the game the rest of way. They outscored the Blue Devils 21-7 in the 2nd quarter and never looked back, winning by the final score of 71-47.
Cadence Thomas had her best game of the season leading all scorers with 21 points. She shot 5/12 and hit all 8 free throws she attempted. Cadence also added 3 steals, 1 rebound, and 1 assist to her stat line. Coach Gibbs was asked what he thought about her performance and he said “She was awesome, she bounce back from early adversity. I knew she had this in her and know we will see this kind of performance many more time over the coming years. She is a freshman with unlimited potential.”
Vanessa Wilson picked up early fouls and only played 19 minutes. In those 19 minutes, she was still productive adding 15 points, 2 steal and 2 rebound. Kenzee Smith contributed as well with 11 points, 4 assists, 4 rebounds, and 3 steals. In her 2nd full game back junior sensation Kenadi Brand shot 4/4 from the field, she added 3 rebounds and 1 steal, in 14 minutes of action.
The win ended a Hawks 2 game loosing streak and moved their record to 8-10. The win also gives the Hawks team positive momentum as they go into the conference SNOW-COMING matchup against the Greenwood Woodsmen.
