It was a tough night for the Lady Hawks, falling short in the 1st Round of Sectionals to Avon 3-1. The Hawks came out a little stiff and nervous in the first half allowing in 3 goals, one being a penalty kick after a hand ball in the box. Senior keeper Bailey Helms really stepped up with 11 saves in the first half.
The Hawks came out the second half determined to shutout the Orioles offense and they did, with the help of juniors Jasmine Hermosillo, Lorena Williams, and senior keeper Bailey Helms who had 6 saves in the second half. After a foul in the box, freshman Jacky Flores stepped up nailing her PK in the back of the net, taking the game to 3-1. The Lady’s Hawks fought til the very end but just couldn’t catch back up.
“No matter the outcome of this game, we still made history this season! Our senior class has left a legacy for future teams. We came in second in the Mid-State Conference, we defeated Mooresville for the first time ever, went 10 straight games undefeated, had 8 shutouts, scored in every game but one, and ended our season 11-4-1. Those are huge accomplishments for this program! I’m so proud of this team and all they have done together.” – Coach Keith
