Saturday was a long day of tennis for the Hawks as they hosted the Spark Plugs from Speedway and the Red Devils from Pike. It was a competitive day of tennis as all three teams brought their A-game to the courts of Decatur Central High School.
First up was DC vs. Pike. The Hawks fought well, playing one of their most competitive matches of the season, but ended with Pike walking away with a 4-1 win.

#2 Singles – Lance Wells (Pike) def. Dakota Atwood (DC) 7-6 [7-5], 6-0
#3 Singles – Brendan Kellogg (Pike) def. Nolan Spivey 6-4, 7-5
#1 Doubles – Connor Martin/Justin Wright (DC) def. Quentin Bunin/Isaac Fleck 6-4, 3-6, 10-8 (tie break)
#2 Doubles – Deon Blake/AJ Graham (Pike) def. Nick Crider/Jackson Tetrick (DC) 6-2, 6-0
Props to number one doubles managing to fight back in a third set to take the win!
JV also had a good day against Pike, bringing a 3-0 sweep over the Red Devils! Special shoutout to sophomore duo Ethan Huntsman/Flavio Mayorga pulling out the win in a tiebreaker 8-7 (7-5)!
Second up was Pike vs. Speedway, ending with Pike bringing home the victory 5-0 over Speedway.
Third was DC vs. Speedway.
After a long but close match against Pike, the Hawks were ready to get some redemption. And with an experimental lineup and the removal of a player due to injury concerns, the Hawks were able to best Speedway in a 3-2 result.

#2 Singles – Nick Crider fell to Speedway’s Austin Huddleston 0-6, 0-6
#3 Singles – Flavio Mayorga fell to Speedway’s Jack Thompson 1-6, 2-6
#1 Doubles – Dakota Atwood/Nolan Spivey def. Speedway’s Ryan Pettigrew/Devin Isaac 6-0, 6-2
#2 Doubles – Connor Martin/Jackson Tetrick def. Speedway’s Hay Koo Thoo/Hunter Woodlock 6-2, 6-0
JV also succeeded in sweeping Speedway with a nice 3-0 victory, rounding out a good day for the young Hawks! Special shoutout to freshman duo Curtis Bennett and Logan Schick for pulling out the win in a close tiebreak 8-7 (8-6)!
The Hawks are on the road Monday and Tuesday for the Mid State Conference Tournament at Perry. First day starts at 3 and the second day starts at 4. Get up Hawks!
