Hawks News · Hawks put together a Solid Senior Night but fall short versus the Cadets (39-53)

The Hawks (1-2) played 3 solid quarters against a good sharp shooting Cascade Cadets team on Decatur Central Senior Night. The Hawk got off to an early first quarter lead of 10-4. Mya Jackson accounting for six of those 10 points. The Hawks held onto the lead at half-time 23-22, but the Cadets hot shooting allowed them to outscore the Hawks 18-13 in the quarter. The Hawk defense picked up in the 3rd, but the offense disappeared as they lost quarter 4-7.  In the final quarter turnover and poor shooting ended up being too much for the Hawks to withstand as they loss the quarter 12-24 and the game 53-39.

In an interview with Coach Gibbs, he stated “We have 4 seniors, only one with real varsity experience.  We are learning how to play at this level and today we made huge strides. I see a huge light for us at the end of the tunnel.”  Coach Gibbs end the interview saying “The four seniors Mya, Kenadi, Lorena, and Maddie are great kids and I have been a blessed with the opportunity to get to know and coach them.  WE ARE GETTING BETTER AND BETTER TIME ARE AHEAD!!”

The Senior Hawks all stepped up on their night all contributing in different ways. Mya Jackson has led the Hawks in scoring all 3 games. She had 13 on 50% shooting and chipped in 5 rebound. Maddie Wachnicki contributed 4 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists and  Lorena Williams on her senior night added 8 rebounds an 4 assist. In her first appearance of the year, returning from injury senior Kenadi Brand battle and competed.

The Hawks travel to Whiteland on November 25 at 430.  The Hawks hope to stop the 3 game skid and get back to their winning ways.
