The Decatur Central High School Athletic Department in partnership with corporate sponsor Marion Adams Flooring is happy to recognize the dedication, perseverance, and success of Decatur Central student-athletes. Each month during the 2017-18 and 2018-19 school years, Decatur Central Athletics awards the “Marion Adams Flooring Athlete of the Month Award.” This award is given to one female and one male student-athlete who have displayed athletic excellence in all areas of competition during the previous month. Marion Adams Flooring is proud to recognize student-athletes for their athletic achievements each month while supporting the Decatur Central Athletic Department.
The January female Student-Athlete of the month is D.C.H.S. Sophomore Kenadi Brand. Kenadi played a key role in helping the Lady Hawks Basketball team to a 16-8 record for the season. Her biggest game of the season came against Plainfield on Senior Night, where she scored a career high 20 points for the Hawks. Coach Daryl Gibbs said, “In her first full season as a varsity starter, Kenadi has exceeded all expectations as a player and a teammate.” Kenadi is currently holding a 3.343 GPA through her High School career.
Senior Emmanuel Oyebode is the January male Student-Athlete of the Month. The DCHS Senior led the Hawks wrestling team in overall record at 31-7 for the year. Emmanuel’s best month of the season came down the stretch where he had a 7-0 record in the month of January, including 5 pins and 1 tech-fall. Emmanuel finished the season as the 2019 Mid-State Runner-Up and was also a 2019 IHSAA Regional Qualifier. “The month of January showcased Emmanuel Oyebode’s hard work and determination to be the best person and wrestler he can be. His growth as a leader and a person was incredible to watch. We, as a coaching staff, are excited to see what the future holds for Emmanuel. With his work ethic and drive, he will achieve any career and life goals that he sets his mind to.” said Coach Schlueter. Emmanuel currently has a 2.532 GPA for his High School career.
