Marion Adams Flooring Athletes of the Month- December 2018
The Decatur Central High School Athletic Department in partnership with corporate sponsor Marion Adams Flooring is happy to recognize the dedication, perseverance, and success of Decatur Central student-athletes. Each month during the 2017-18 and 2018-19 school years, Decatur Central Athletics awards the “Marion Adams Flooring Athlete of the Month Award.” This award is given to one female and one male student-athlete who have displayed athletic excellence in all areas of competition during the previous month. Marion Adams Flooring is proud to recognize student-athletes for their athletic achievements each month while supporting the Decatur Central Athletic Department.
The December female Student-Athlete of the month is D.C.H.S. Junior Vanessa Wilson. Vanessa is a 3-year Varsity starter for the Lady Hawks Basketball team. Through the first 16 games, she is averaging 12.9 points per game while shooting 42% from the field. Vanessa’s top performance so far this year came against Manual earlier in the season. She filled up the stat sheet on both sides of the ball recording 20 points and 5 steals for the game. Coach Daryl Gibbs said, “Vanessa has done a great job at leading the team to a 11-5 record. She has sacrificed her own numbers for the sake of the team.” Vanessa is currently holding a 3.840 GPA through her High School career.
Senior Ryan Bostic is the December male Student-Athlete of the Month. The DCHS Senior has been an integral part of the offense for John Ashworth and the Hawks Basketball team this season. Ryan has started off the season averaging 16.3 points per game, while shooting an astounding 93% from the FT line. His top performances through the first portion of the season include; 19 points vs rival Mooresville, 22 points vs Ritter, 23 points vs Tri-West, and 16 points vs New Palestine. “Ryan has started off the season very well for us. He is scoring and shooting well, but he is also bringing hard work on the defensive end and has shown that he’s developed and improved as a player from last year. He has been a big reason for our early success and we think he will continue to have an excellent senior season,” said Coach Ashworth. Ryan currently has a 2.676 GPA for his High School career.
