The Lady Hawks Girls Basketball team (1-1) recorded their first win of the season against the Perry Meridian Falcon (0-2) by a score of 55-50. Saying the Hawks started slowly would definitely be an understatement. They scored only 3 points in the first quarter and trailed 9-3 at its end. In the 2nd quarter the Hawks settled down and poured in 20 points and went into the locker room with a 23-22 halftime lead. After the break the Lady Hawks continued their solid play winning the 3rd quarter (17-11) and then holding on for the victory. It was the Lady Hawks first victory against Perry Meridian since 2012, and comes after a shellacking the prior season, where the Hawks fell 77-35.
The Hawks were lead in scoring by Vanessa Wilson and Kenzee Smith who each had 14. Ajulu Thatha added 12 points of her own. Another major key contributor in the Hawk win was the play of Lindsey Duncan. She came off the bench and ignited the Hawks offense with 11 points.
The Hawks next game will be at the HAWKS NEST on Saturday November 11 at 7PM. They will host Greenwood Christian.
