Decatur Central High School
Mooresville High School
While Decatur Central’s score may appear to have easily favored Mooresville, this was not the case. The lopsided scores were not indicitive of the effort or matches the ladies played. Up and down both the varsity and junior varsity lineup, the Hawks were not making it easy on the Pioneers. Games were constantly going to duece as the Hawks played their hearts out. First time doubles partners Yennie Tran and Taylor O’Dell had a strong showing at number two doubles as they played with energy and aggression, moving their opponents around the court. The future is bright for these two freshmen. Sophomore Haley Card stepped up in the two singles spot, as she fell to a Mooresville senior veteran, but not before making her earn every point.
The real star of the night might have been senior Jess Sommers as she played the match in honor of her father, who passed away last summer from Heart Disease. The Hawks have been raising money all season to be donated to the American Heart Association. Tonight was the culminating event. Jess played through many emotions and kept fighting, even though she was playing against the favorite individual player to win conference this year. Decatur is proud of these ladies for their work on and off the court!
They return for one more match this week tonight, as they travel to Pike High School.
