Once again the lady Hawks are teaming up with Mooresville to raise money for a cause of their choice. This year the Hawks have decided to raise money for Heart Disease, in honor of Bill Sommers, who passed away last summer. Bill’s daughter is a senior and a leader on the team, and his son Will is a sophomore tennis player as well.
Last month senior Meghan Arsenault organized a Comedy Sports evening where all funds raised would be donated to our #SmashHeartDisease event. The event was very successful and raised over $900.00 to be donated by the tennis team to the American Heart Association. The ladies have also been busy selling red t-shirts, whose proceeds will be donated.
Tonight the Hawks take the court against our rivals: Mooresville High School. This year Mooresville has raised money in honor of a very special person to them who is battling Multiple Sclerosis. We met the Mooresville tennis team for breakfast, to show our unity and support in fighting these causes together. At the match we will invite survivors or their family members to hit out first serves, in honor of those battling these diseases as well as cancer. We have been busy making signs and decorations to decorate the courts, there will be a concession stand and bake sale as well. We will trade team colors during introductions to show our support for one another. We are very proud of how hard the girls have worked to raise money for the American Heart Association. These ladies are not only excellent student athletes, but they are model citizens! We are #DecaturProud!
Please come out and support your team, and these causes tonight as we battle Mooresville, at Mooresville High School, beginning at 5:00!
